It sure has been awhile since I have done any blogging. It has been such the busy summer for both of us! We both were in school for the first part of summer and now we have a month off before fall semester begins and are enjoying the time that we can actually spend with each other. In the last month we have been gone every weekend it seems. We went to Lake Powell over the last week in June with the Muhlestein's and had a blast. I have been the worlds worst picture taker lately, but I will post pics as soon as I get to it! We just barely got back from Veil, Colorado where Michael and Wes & Jess (my brother and sis-in-law) did the Xterra Tri. They all did really well and had a great time. My parents were planning on taking a vacation to Beaver Creek over the same weekend as the Tri, so they kindly let us stay in their place for the weekend.

I feel like such a slacker in not keeping up with my blog, but let's be honest, who wants to be inside uploading pictures when the weather is so beautiful outside?... I rest my case.

Carved Box

This is what I made last Friday in Ceramics. We put together the box, then let it dry hard enough that we could start carving it. It's not as hard as you'd think, but what a time consuming process! This was probably my favorite project yet. I'm feeling bad that I only have one more class left. :( I have never had so much fun in any college class... I think I might have to make this a hobby!

New Mexico Tri #2

A few weekends ago Michael did the Farmington, New Mexico Xterra Triathlon for the second time. It's about a 7 hour drive each way. We left on a Friday afternoon and got back the following Saturday night; it was a quick trip! Even so, it was really fun to spend time with the two boys and watch Michael race. Somehow I never get tired of going to these events. Not only is there an abundance of excitement filling the air, but to see the incredibly strong athletes race is quite motivating! Here are some pictures from our trip... enjoy...

I love to watch everyone getting ready for the race. It is interesting to see how different everyone lays out their gear for optimum timeliness during transition.

"Best Buds"

He did great! He came in a little later than last year, but what can you expect with it being the first race of the season? I'm just so proud of him. The Xterra's he does are pretty hardcore.

We found these massive "otter pops" at a gas station in Shiprock.

They sure cooled us off on that 98 degree weather day.

Ziggy was completely pooped coming home. He slept the whole way home. Instead of using the entire back seat to lay down, he has to lay his head in the middle console to be close to Michael and I.

On our way home we stopped in Moab. We met Michaels friends at the watering hole for a much needed break from driving. Ziggy kept stealing sticks from all the dog's mouths. He's hilarious.

I got this vase at a trade shop in a reservation just out of New Mexico.

The lady who sold it to me said that it is a wedding vase.

When a couple gets married, they each drink from opposite sides of the vase.

Once they have done so, they become one.

However, if their marriage is to fail, they have to break the vase and bury it in the ground where the clay came from that was used to make it.

It is an Indian tradition.

Ceramics

I am taking a ceramics class this summer and LOVE it! The majority of the class is hand building, but we do a little throwing on the wheel as well. These are the two pots I made and I am so proud of them :). {Let me tell you why} I took a ceramics class in high school and barely passed it. I like to contribute a majority of that to the terrible teacher I had, but I guess I need to take some of the credit. Needless to say, I was very nervous going into this class. Anyway, these are still in the "greenware" stage. The first pot is going to be a matte black and the pot with the carved top is going to have a turquoise crackle glaze! We will be firing our pots on the last day of class.

GRANT MUHLESTEIN

Grant Muhlestein 11/4/1918 ~ 5/26/2010 Grant Alvey Muhlestein, age 91, passed away May 26, 2010, greatly loved and surrounded by his family. Grant was born November 4, 1918 in Provo, Utah to Ephraim Ammon and Lillie Alvey Muhlestein. He married his eternal companion, Lillie Belle Tidwell, October 2, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. Their marriage of 69 years is a great and devoted love story. Grant served in the US Army during World War II on the Pacific front and miraculously returned home decorated with a purple heart. Under the G.I. Bill he enrolled in the Salt Lake Vocational School to become a master builder. For over 20 years he built custom homes and developed many subdivisions, most notably St. Mary's Hills. He became a commercial building contractor in the 1970s building a number of large projects in the western United States and Hawaii. He retired in his mid-seventies from contracting leaving a legacy of outstanding homes and buildings. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as the first bishop of the Monument Park 11th ward. Grant and Lillie were called to serve together on the YMMIA General Board Dance Committee and taught youth all over the world to dance. You could always count on Grant to do his very best with any assignment. He set a high standard of excellence. His favorite calling in the church was stake missionary and he was passionate about teaching the restored gospel to those interested, especially to his children and grandchildren. His love of the scriptures was his trademark and influenced his grandchildren in their decisions to serve full time missions. He spent a lifetime developing and sharing hobbies: piloting small aircraft, photography, video productions, ballroom dancing, waterskiing, boating, and golf. Grant's greatest joy came from his sweet wife, caring children and delightful grandchildren, both great and grand! He is survived by his wife, Lillie; five children: Gayle (Calvin) Clegg, Nancy Swaner, Linda Terry, David (Paula) Muhlestein, Janet (Ken) Davis; 21 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; sisters: Naomi Anderson, Donna Truscott, Joy (Dan) Higbee, Lillie (Gareth) Peterson; brothers: Arnold (Dorothy) Muhlestein, Ray (Joyce) Muhlestein. He is preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law Stephen Swaner; great-grandson Joseph Coles; brother Lester Muhlestein; sister Jean Thorpe; brothers-in-law: Walt Anderson, Bud Truscott. Funeral Services: Tuesday June 1st, 2010 1 p.m. at the Monument Park Stake Center; 1320 South Wasatch Drive. Viewings: Monday May 31st 7-9 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn; 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah; and Tuesday June 1st 11:30 a.m-12:45 p.m. at the Monument Park Stake Center. {The funeral was on Tuesday and it was beautiful. Several of Grant's loved ones shared stories of him, including Michael and his father. They both did wonderful. Michael's talk represented his siblings as well as his own feelings toward Grant. I never did get to meet the real Grant. He had Alzheimers for nearly the last 10 years of his life. It was neat to hear about the wonderful man he was. He was described as the epitome of integrity, devotion and love. We will miss him, but take great comfort in knowing that he is now happy, healthy, and that we will see him once again.}

We carb-loaded the night before the race at a little Italian joint.

It was ...mmm... delicious.

The swim was 1/2 mile. They did a deep water start where we had to swim out to a buoy and tread water for 5 minutes before starting the race.

It was hard because everyone kept kicking each other.

Biked 13 1/2 miles.

Ran a 5k.

I'm back from Tempe, Arizona and survived the tri! Jess and I flew home Saturday after the race and Michael is driving back with his buddies. They did some mountain biking in Flagstaff yesterday, spent the night in Kanab and are driving home the rest of the way today.

I forgot to bring my camera, but Jessi has pictures of everything.

I shall be getting them soon.

This past weekend we worked in the yard. We "almost" have our entire backyard completely landscaped...hallelujah!! We finished off a corner Saturday, where we planted a few trees and some bushes. When Michael and I got home from church Sunday, Ziggy had dug a hole about a foot deep - right where we had planted the tree!! Michael was furious, more than me (probably because he had to lift the 150 lb. sucker into the ground). NO more bones in the backyard for the boy. I heard cayenne pepper does the trick and he hasn't touched it since.

We had a fun BBQ with some of my family Sunday. We cooked up some kabobs on the grill and basked in the warmth of the weather. Morgan and Carson wouldn't eat their food, so we made a bet. Each piece of chicken they ate, they could play 5 min. of LEGO Batman on Michael's Xbox. Well, it obviously did the trick. Honestly, where would we be without bribes?

Tonight I watched American Idol and Biggest Loser all by myself. Michael went down to Green River for a pre-bid for work. After the meeting, he drove to Moab to hit up a quick trail. He came back to his car and one of his tires was flat on his truck. Normally you could just put a spare on and be ok. Nope. Not with the truck. Apparently there is a key to one of the lug nuts which was safely put away somewhere in his office back home. So there he is, stuck in Moab for the night. Wish I had've known this would happen... I sure would have ditched all my obligations for the day and gone with him in a heartbeat.

I cannot tell you how excited I am for the Spring & Summer season. I can feel a sense of renewal in the air and I am slowly gaining back all the energy I seemed to have lost all winter. What a difference the weather makes, really.

With the Spring semester coming to an end, I am feeling the load of homework slowly slough off my shoulders. It feels really good to have another semester behind me. I can ALMOST see the light at the end of the tunnel now.

Well, I had better go to bed. Much to do tomorrow.

Moab

We went to Moab this past weekend with Chris, Tiff & Saunta, Tara, Tyson & Tsye, Chris, Ralphy and Paul. They were a really fun group to be with; we had a blast together. We went biking Saturday and four-wheeling on Fins-n-Things Sunday.

There were four dogs with us, which definitely kept us all entertained.

Zig sat and watched anyone that was eating by the campfire and drooled all over them. haha

He is so weird, I just love him.

Please don't mind ALL the pics I took of Four-Wheeling..

...lets just say I love it.

This was in Green River. Yes, it is a watermelon on a trailer.

Michael devoured it.

What did we spend our REI dividend on this year you ask?

He is now twins with Ralphy.

All the other dogs stayed dry, but not Zig.

He jumps in every little water hole he sees.

At one point we stopped and saw all the dogs but Ziggy.

Michael and I both hopped on our bikes and back tracked to find him.

We called for him and finally heard his cry.

Michael found him off the side of the rock in a deep pot hole filled with water.

He was trying to get out, but it was so steep he couldn't.

I sure breathed a sigh of relief when I found he wasn't hurt.

This picture is another story in and of itself.

Michael decides to go up a huge boulder, but what does he do?

He took the steepest way up that there was.

After his truck was vertical, he couldn't go any farther forward because his back tires weren't even touching the ground. He is literally sitting on the hitch of his truck in these pics. And if he had've backed up, he would have bent the frame of his truck.

Needless to say I wasn't very happy with him, while everyone else is giving him kudos for even attempting it.

Luckily Chris had a winch on Black Beauty and was able to lift the truck to safety.

You might ask, what was the outcome of this bold move?

I will tell you... a pretty significant dent just above the back left tire.

Unfortunately, it will cost a pretty penny to fix but I think secretly Michael is proud of it.

We went to California over Spring Break with Michael's family. The trip was in celebration of Dave turning 60. It was a much needed trip; getting out of the cold, gloomy weather was so wonderful. We had so much fun with the family, especially at Disneyland with the little ones. I don't have any pics of us at Disneyland, but if you have access to Jessica's blog you should check them out. We went to the beach, swam at the pool, played Shanghai, went to Trader Joes, and enjoyed spending time with each other. Thanks again Paula and Dave for such a great trip, we had sooo much fun!

Pictures from our "honeymoon" in Costa Rica

Our "Two Year" Anniversary was on March 14, 2010. It happened to fall on a Sunday, so we decided to celebrate the night before. Michael cooked up some delicious Salmon and we exchanged gifts. Michael got me a bouquet of flowers and Tory Burch shoes that I've been dying to have. He's such a sweetie. I'm completely and utterly in love with this guy and the luckiest girl in the world to have him.

St. George icup

This past weekend we headed to St. George for the intermountain cup bike race. Michael had never done any of the icup races before, so he decided to sign up under "expert."

That's my boy :) As you can see in the pictures, Michael was the first to take off in his pack. He had three 6 mile loops to complete, but when he got to the top of the first one his ankle gave out.

Let's rewind back a few weeks when he was playing church ball and twisted his ankle. He tore several ligaments in his ankle, but decided to still attempt this race. Unfortunately, during the race his ankle did not cooperate and he had to drop out. He was not happy, but did not let it get to him for the rest of the weekend (surprisingly). He was such a good sport about it, but honestly, I was somewhat glad he couldn't finish {no offense, honey}. I prefer being a spectator at the Xterras; they are so much more exciting! After he took off on the bike, I stood around for a few minutes and realized it would be about 35 minutes before I'd even see him again, and at that, for just a few seconds. This is why I decided to head to the car and write a paper for one of my classes.

Needless to say our weekend didn't turn out quite liked we had hoped, but it was fun nonetheless. We grabbed some ice cream after the race, who can be upset eating Baskin Robbins? (by the way- Blue Bunny ice cream store in St. George is no longer in business... definitely my disappointment of the trip). It was nice to get outside and have the sun beating down, it was sooo wonderful!

*Valentines Weekend

I had just gotten home from school Thursday night when Michael walks in the door. Go into a room and shut the door, he says. I hear him messing with a few things in the kitchen and when he okayed that I could come in, I see a beautiful bouquet of flowers in his hands. He had bought a bunch of flowers and arranged them himself, he's so artistic. He said, "I thought I'd give them to you early, so you could enjoy them over the weekend," and I have done just that. Any girl who says flowers are over-rated is lying, because they are simply the best. I love flowers...especially for Valentines. I ended up giving him his Valentines early because I couldn't wait. I made him a little basket full of little goodies from FAO Schwartz. He loved it.

We decided to celebrate Valentines on Saturday. We went to breakfast at Park Cafe with a few friends, went to see the movie "Valentines Day," and then went to dinner at Cucina Toscana that night. Michael made reservations a few weeks ago and I had been waiting to go there ever since. It is an Italian restaurant just East of Gateway, and it is to die for. The last time we went there was the night we got engaged.

I've decided that Michael is a romantic. I love it.

This past weekend couldn't have been any better.

Michael and his buddies went to Jackson Hole to ski this past weekend. I thought that perhaps I might be a bit lonely, so I invited my nephews and mom to sleepover Friday night. Then Saturday, after a much needed nap, Jessica came to my house! We cooked Paella; something we've been wanting to do for a while now. Jess came with a recipe, and to our surprise it turned out perfectly and was absolutely delicious. Paella is a traditional Spanish meal. The key to this delightful dish... add more {Safron: an expensive spice that makes all the difference}. After dinner we went to the movie "Dear John." It was so fun to spend a night with my sis-in-law! We'll have to do it again soon :)

...the mouse (referring to me) will make treats! I haven't had/made muddy buddies in forever, so I thought it was about time. They are yummy. While Michael is attending night school, I often find myself looking for something to do. Sometimes I will make treats to surprise him when he gets home. He probably wishes I would make some "real" food once in a while, but I am learning. Unfortunately, that is my weak spot. One of my goals for this year; to learn to cook healthy delicious meals for two! If anyone has any ideas or good recipes to try, I would be ever so grateful :)

Greek yogurt has become my new favorite snack. Best part...one of these little guys packs 14g of protein. That's more than twice the amt. in Yoplait or Activia. Seeing that I need to be eating half my body weight in grams of protein a day, I'm well on my way with one of these yogurts for breakfast :)

Mister Patient Himself

I just have to tell you all what a patient, sweet little {Big} dog I have. He has been glued to my side for the past little while, following me everywhere I go. I sometimes spend hours down in our computer room doing homework and he just lays on his couch so peacefully until I'm through. I even have to wake him sometimes when he starts to whine while he is sleeping. Heaven forbid the little guy having to suffer through a bad dream! haha I just love him.

This past Saturday we headed up to Park City to spend time with my parents and brother's family. We took the funicular up to the St. Regis Hotel. It is beautiful; we were pretending it was our home. Then we went sledding with the boys and ended the evening with a relaxing moment in the hot tub back at the condo. We brought Ziggy outside so he could get some exercise in. Michael kept throwing his ball from the hot tub and eventually the ball got lost in the piles of snow. Michael and I both hopped out (still in our swimsuits) and ran around trying to find it. Morgan and Carson could not stop laughing at us, but I don't blame them. I'm sure it looked really funny; especially with my rain boots on. :)

Back to School

The both of us. I think we're excited to get back into the swing of things, but in a way it always comes to soon. I feel like I just got out for Christmas break. Oh well, on to bigger and better things I guess. Michael and I are both working toward our undergrads. He is going into Construction Management and I am doing Elementary Education. We are excited for our prospective degrees, but are thoroughly enjoying our lives at the moment.

Have you ever felt like you are so stressed and have so much to do that it can't possibly all get done by you, the one person that everything is dependent upon to get done? Well, this has been me for the past few days... I guess you could say I was almost to the point of a nervous breakdown until.....

....michael comes home with these flowers in his arms. He really knows how to cheer me up, but what he doesn't know; how much this little gesture meant to me. Its amazing how something so simple can completely change your attitude about things. I just want him to know that he means so much to me. He is one of a kind, and that is why I love him.

Gingerbread Houses...

This will be the third year since we started this tradition, we were happy gabrielle and cole could join us from st. george this year too! :) I have to say, we don't spend enough time hanging out with these lovely couples.

Thanksgiving Day

I always love Thanksgiving day, not only because there is so much delicious food to eat but more importantly it is a time to spend with family. Michael, Ziggy and I ran a 5k that morning with my family, and ate lunch at my parents house. I only have pictures from being at my parents, unfortunately I forgot to take my camera over to Michaels parents house :( ... I need to do better with that. Later that night we went to the Jazz game with Jessica and Chris, thanks to Michaels aunt who gave us the tickets. It was fun to just be able to talk with family and realize just how much there is to be thankful for.

Rebellion

A while back Michael told me that dogs in their teenage (human) years were rebellious, just like a teenager would be. I laughed and thought nothing of it until just recently. Now I am wondering, what happened to my sweet little boy? Let me just tell you of a few things he has been up to.

1. Burrowing his head in the garbage to see what he can find... no matter how many times I tell him to stop, he goes right back to doing it again.

2. He now has to have me stand right beside him as he eats his breakfast and dinner, after asking him to eat for the 17th time. No, I cannot be three yards away doing the dishes.. I'm hovering over him like I have nothing better to do.

3. Any toy we have given him lately has been shredded to pieces, within a matter of seconds our carpet is covered with white balls of stuffing.

4. Michael and I give him loves before we all go to sleep. He has a little bed on the floor where he sleeps. After kissing him goodnight, we tell him "Ziggy, go to your bed" and yes, he does know what it means. He used to be really good, but now when we say it he either goes to the foot of our bed and lays down or acts like he has a scratch so he doesn't have to jump down. (Mr. Attitude).

I actually could name quite a few more things, but I will not for a lack of time and mine and your sanity. Even though he's been quite the little rascal lately, I wouldn't trade him for a million dollars. It's amazing to me how I can be yelling at him one second and the next he is right at my feet wagging his tail with happiness. Dogs really are the epitome of unconditional love, one such animal we can all learn a thing or two from. :)

Halloween Party

My family started a tradition a few years ago, an annual family Halloween Party. We all come in costume, always anxious to see what Andy and Camille will be...(they keep it a surprise). It's a fun party where we laugh, talk, play games, and all enjoying eachothers' company.

Yesterday we had my family over for a bbq in our backyard. We have been working like crazy this summer to get our backyard into shape, and on the 24th we put a canopy up so we could have some shade back there. It was fun to spend time with the family, enjoying eachothers company.

Michael did a triathlon in Vail, Colorado a few weekends ago. He was planning on going by himself since I had work, until Jessica volunteered to make the drive with him. It was so nice of her to keep him company on their long 8 to 9 hour drive. They had a good time and Michael did really well, in fact he just found out that he is qualified to compete in the Ogden Xterra Championship which will be held sometime in September. I am so proud of him. He is such a determined person, one of the many wonderful qualities he has.

Michael and I flew into Oakland this past week for his Mission Presidents' Homecoming. We decided to get there early Saturday morning to spend some time in San Francisco, since it was only about 20 min. away from Oakland. I got carried away taking pictures... SF is such a fun city to visit. Saturday night we drove to Union City and The Gingery's (Michaels Mission President and his wife) had a big dinner at their home for all the previous missionaries that could attend. It was so fun to see and talk to all the missionaries from Michael's mission that I have heard so much about. It was great to see the Gingery's again, they were so welcoming and generous to have such a fun get together for all of us. I got a kick out of sitting around listening to Michael and all the guys he served with telling stories from their mission. It was neat to see a different side of Michael, he truly loved his mission and he loves the Gingerys as if they were his parents. We were so lucky to be able to attend their homecoming, it was so uplifting for both of us.

The water was a little too cold for me to swim in, but we still had a great time despite the drawbacks of this years late season. The highlight of the trip? It most definately was the raspberry shakes, and I think my family would agree.

New Mexico Triathlon

Michael, I and the boy drove 7 1/2 hours down to New Mexico for another one of the Xterra triathlons. Ziggy was so funny in the car. Instead of sprawling out in the backseat, he would rather be right by us and be a lot more uncomfortable. He was a good boy though, it was fun to have him with us this time. This triathlon was limited to 150 people because of the regulations regarding Farmington Lake. Michael did so well in this tri, he got "1st place" in his division and 46th out of 150. There is something so exciting about these races, it is such fun atmosphere. I am so proud of you baby! The last picture of Zig makes me laugh, he is one funny dog.

Las Vegas Triathlon

Michael and his friend Chris both did the triathlon in Las Vegas over the first weekend in May. They both said it was the most grueling one they have ever done. The bike and run was straight uphill, and mostly sand. It was a fun weekend spent celebrating Michaels birthday and hanging out with Chris and Erin.

Whole Wheat Waffles

I came across this recipe and thought I would give it a try. Turns out it is incredibly delicious, so I thought I would share. Best thing about it?... it is super healthy. :)

Whole Wheat Waffles

1 cup whole wheat flour

2 T. wheat germ

3/4-1 cup nonfat milk

2 egg whites

1/2 t. baking powder

3 T. brown sugar

1 t. vanilla

dash of salt

This recipe makes about 4 whole waffles, so about enough for two.

I have doubled it and it turns out just as good.

Moab is one of Michael and I's favorite places to be. There is something so wonderful about this area that encompasses so many different leisure activities. We met Michaels cousin from AZ, her husband, and Ralph down there. Our good friends Chris and Erin made it down there as well to spend some time with us. We camped 9 miles up Kane Creek Canyon in such a secluded, beautiful spot. We went biking on the Baby Steps trail and then later went four wheeling in Michaels truck and Chris and Lisa's "Jeep" (which is beautiful, I might add). Ziggy and Ralph had never officially met, but soon became friends. Ziggy was happy to find a friend who had just as much, if not more energy than himself :) If only the weekends could last a bit longer...

We decided to celebrate Michaels birthday a little early this year because of a busy weekend coming up. I took him up to Park City for dinner and we ate here, one of the best restaurants in PC. After dinner we went to my parents condo and relaxed in the hot tub, it was freezing up there! When we got back home, Michael opened his presents with a wonderful helper named Ziggy.

A Night in Park City

Michaels cousin Lisa and her husband Chris invited us up to Park City to stay overnight at his parents condo. We went to dinner at Ciseros on the main. It's excellent italian food if you've never been. After that we went back to the condo and hung out. It was so fun to get away, and we both slept like babies that night. We decided we need to get a mattress like the one up there. Thanks again you guys, we wish you lived closer so we could get together more often!

I have not blogged for quite some time due to an unexpected family incident and busy, busy holiday... but I'm finally back and going to fill you in on our lives.

Back in November, Michael and I went on a trip with all of his family to Cabo San Lucas. It was so much fun. All the boys tried skim boarding on the beach, we swam in the ocean, laid in the sun, played many games of Shanghai, and just enjoyed each others company. It was so fun to see Marci and Dan(Michael's sister & her husband). We don't get to see them very often, and it was great to be able to spend some time with them. It was such a relaxing trip with so many smiles and laughs, we loved every minute of it!

Michael and I returned from Cabo a couple days after Thanksgiving to find my brother in a coma at the Intensive Care Unit at University Hospital. He had an infection in his brain, and it was almost for sure that he wouldn't make it. Miraculously though, he is doing better than we ever could have imagined. He had some temporary paralysis, but the movement has completely come back in both his legs and in one arm so far. He even walked clear to Starbucks (in the hospital) and back the other day! He is doing wonderfully and our family is so greatful for those of you whose prayers and deep concern got us through this trying time.

A Fun Weekend

Last weekend Michael and I watched Morgan and Carson, while my brother and his wife stayed up in Park City overnight. They are the funniest little boys. We took them to a 3D film at the Clark Planetarium, which they loved. When we got back I told them they had to get in their pjs to go to bed. Morgan started undressing and said, I want to take a nice warm bath. Bathtime was a little more dramatic for Carson when we couldn't find his brontasaurus. In the morning we took them to breakfast and Morgan looks at Michael and says.. "I just can't stand it,

Carson's just so cute!" Where does he get these sayings? After breakfast, we took them to Bird World right by our house. Carson liked the turtles the best, and told his mom that the Toders were his favorite. We had a really fun time, kids are exhausting and a lot of work... but so worth it!

Xterra Nevada (Incline Village)

You can't see the top of the mountain, clouds and it was snowing up on top it was so cold.

We only had 1/2 mile of pavement to ride it felt nice!

I just returned home this last weekend from Lake Tahoe Nevada, where I completed my second Xterra Triatholon. Saturday was the day of the race, and they had to cancel the swim because there was 45 mph winds that created 5 foot swells on the shore. They replaced the swim with a mile sprint, then we were off to the top of the mountain on our mountain bikes. 13 of the 19 miles were climbing & the first 4 miles we climbed 1800 feet. As we descened down the mountain we ended the race with a 5K mountain run. I had fun, a little sad about the delayed swim but I will have plenty more races to go! I went with Wes (my brother in law) and Chris. I finished in 3hrs 18min. p.s. I think this is my first post!!

Michael did his first tri this last Saturday, along with my brother Wes. He sprained his elbow about a week before the race, but decided he'd give it a go anyway. The Xterra (sport) tri is a 1/2 mile swim, about 12 miles mountain biking, and a 5k run. It goes from Pineview resevoir clear up to Snow Basin.. quite the incline. Michael did really well, I'm very proud of him. Way to go honey!

My trip to Wisconsin...

I just got back from a 10 day teacher training in WI. It was both exciting and exhausting, but I really learned a lot and am very glad I went. The hardest part was being away from Michael for that long, I really missed him.

My mom and I flew into the Minneapolis airport, and then drove 3 1/2 hours to Stevens Point, WI (The city of the Suzuki Institute). Needless to say, GPS on cell phones is the greatest invention... we drove straight there, no problem. (Something that would not have happened had we been on our own). It was a small little town, not much to do but check out the local eaterys here and there. It was ok though, because we didn't have much time to explore. The teacher training was from Sunday til Sunday, and in that time we had 28 hours of lecture & 15 hours of observing harp lessons. It was a long week, but I'm so glad I did it. It was very informative and inspiring, I am completely converted to the suzuki method.

When driving back to Minneapolis we passed some really neat looking barns, it's farm country out there. When we got to the city we just had to go to Mall of America. It was so big, unbelievably amazing. There is an entire amusement park in the center of the mall.

My mom and I had a great time, but it's so great to be back! Dorothy said it best, "There's no place like home."

We had a hard time departing with the 96 degree temperature and non-stop pina coladas. We enjoyed Costa Rica, it is very relaxed country. As the locals would say "pure vida" meaning pure life. The pictures of us in the mud are on a volcano in a natural hot spot, steam and smelled pretty bad actually. We surfed in Tamrindo, ate fresh Mahi mahi in Coco Beach. We had a great time!

I got a DOUBLE DOG DARE from marci to tell 6 facts about myself, so I guess I must :)

1. I'm not a night person, and I really put sleep towards the top of my list of priorities.
2. I have a real problem with people hovering over me when I'm trying to do something.
3. If I could be any animal, I would be a monkey because they are cute, hairy, and can swing from branches.
4. I was a vegetarian for 10+ years of my life, due to a luau in Hawaii when I was just a wee little one.
5. I can make a mean creme brulee (hee)
6. I have this thing about sipping my gutter after every taste of my soda.... drives michael up a wall.

At Sams Club today Paula brought home a 10Ib. bone for Gunthur! He is a Happy Boy Now! Happy Pre-Thanksgiving!
